Valentines Vault @ GOJM Nottingham

Last night, me and my lovely friend (and fellow housemate) Izie attended the Valentines Vault event at The Galleries Of Justice Museum, in aid of the fundraising campaign 'Help a Nottinghamshire Child'. The evening consisted of lots of Nottingham's independent designers showcasing and selling their beautifully unique products, as well as a fashion show by Eternal Spirits (by Susi Henson - who also happens to be a part time lecturer for our fashion design programme here at Nottingham Trent Uni) with all the profits raised going to this great cause.

'HELP' - 'aims to provide experiences for children and young people in a stimulating environment where they can learn how to play a positive role in their community. The central objective is to keep kids away from crime and out of prison.'
Personally, I think that it's important that this organisation targets children in school, because if you make an impact on them at that age, they're significantly more likely change their behaviour and their ultimate path in life. If we make them see that they have so many viable and achievable options, rather than a life of crime, and we actively help them in this process, then I think that we will begin to see a change.

Back to the shopping - I discovered many small companies that I was unaware of until last night, all of which sell lots of interesting pieces. Here are a few that stood out for me:

Portobello Bags - Unique handmade clutch bags and small purses, which are perfect as bridal accessories. You are also able to select your own fabric and colour as part of the bespoke service that is on offer. Available from www.dezigne.co.uk

Red Anchor Emporium - Owner Scarlett Daggers makes beautiful handmade, personalised, vintage inspired handbags, sccessories and homewares. Her website is coming soon, but in the meantime you can check out her blog @ www.redanchoremporium.blogspot.com/

Alison Knox - Original paintings, hand finished prints and cards with 'words of love and light to challenge the perception, touch the soul and open the heart.' Doesn't that just warm your soul? We need more people like Alison in the world... find her work @ www.everydayangelsart.com/index2.php

Stick & Ribbon - A new and exciting boutique with personal styling advice for women. They put on a small fashion show last night, and the pieces are all very wearable and affordable, and will conveniently take you from day to night. Located at 4 Bridlesmith Walk, Nottingham.

The last event of the evening was a burlesque-themed fashion show by Eternal Spirits, and took place in the old court room (very dramatic). There was a range of corsets, underwear and very intricate evening dresses showcased; all of which looked great on the street models that Susi used. Eternal Spirits have made pieces for (get ready for the name-dropping) Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis, and The Saturdays... you can check out the website @ www.eternalspirits.com/
I did manage to take a few photos, but apologies for the poor quality, the lighting was not very accommodating:
